About the course:
Kobo Toolbox is a free, open-source suite of tools for field data collection in challenging environments, enabling data collection via Android devices and submission to an online server. This 3-day training equips participants with skills to develop, implement, and manage a mobile data collection platform using Kobo Toolbox, and visualize data with Power BI.

– Set up KoBoCollect and KoboToolbox server
– Upload and manage forms on KoboToolbox server

Day 1: Introduction and Form Design
Introduction to Mobile Data Collection (1 hr)
– Overview of mobile data collection
– Common platforms and their applications
– Question types for questionnaires
Introduction to KoboToolbox and Setup (1.5 hr)
– Components: Formbuilder, KoBoCollect, KoboToolbox server
– Installing and configuring KoBoCollect (Google Play or manual)
– KoBoCollect settings, menus, and best practices
Designing Forms with Formbuilder (2 hr)
– Creating forms online using Formbuilder
– Form properties and uploading to KoboToolbox server
– Data security and ethics
Wrap-Up and Q&A (30 min)

Day 2: Advanced Form Design and Data Collection
Designing Forms with XLSForm (2 hr)
– Introduction to XLSForm components and question types

– Software: KoBoCollect, Power BI Desktop, internet access
– Prior Knowledge: Basic understanding of data collection and analysis

Bilal Riaz is a skilled data professional with extensive experience in data management, analysis, and reporting for humanitarian and development projects. He holds an MSc specializing in Accounting and Finance. Bilal is proficient in designing data collection tools, managing data processes, and ensuring data quality, with strong expertise in using Kobo Toolbox for data collection and analysis. Bilal has worked as a Data Manager, Data Analyst, and Training & Finance Officer at CRSM Consulting. He has contributed to significant projects across Iraq and Syria, working with clients like UNDP, World Vision, Oxfam GB, and Terre des Hommes Foundation.
