Introduction to the Course
Climate change is not a distant threat—it is already reshaping the lives of millions of children across South and Southeast Asia. Rising temperatures, floods, droughts, and disease outbreaks are disrupting education, endangering health and nutrition, and increasing protection risks. Children, particularly those from marginalized or poor households, bear the heaviest burden because they are more physiologically, socially, and economically vulnerable to climate shocks and stresses.
This training recognizes that building climate resilience begins with understanding how risks affect children differently—and how interventions in health, education, WASH, and social protection can jointly protect and empower them. It equips development and humanitarian professionals with the knowledge, tools, and practical experience to assess vulnerability and resilience through a child-centred lens, design context-appropriate adaptation strategies, and strengthen local systems that safeguard children in a changing climate.
Training Coverage
Over three intensive days, the training blends in-room learning, participatory field assessment, and group analysis. Participants will explore:
Day 1 – Foundations of Climate Risk and Child Vulnerability
– Understanding climate hazards, exposure, and adaptive capacity
– Sectoral impacts on child health, education, WASH, and social protection
– Frameworks and tools for vulnerability and resilience assessment
– Ethics, safeguarding, and data-collection preparation
Day 2 – Field Application of Risk and Resilience Tools
– Participatory risk mapping, seasonal calendars, and community consultations
– FGDs, KIIs, and observation checklists for assessing service and household resilience
